Darn! I'm not keeping up with upcoming contest content...I have a fantastic sun shot, and one that isn't repeated or even remotely close to anything here. I guess I could post it unofficially?

here is a photo, scanned from an 11x14 print, so you don't get the whole thing...sorry. I wish I owned a negative scanner....! Taken July 11, 1991 from a moving ship using a 500mm lens on an even then, old film Pentax.

Well, I completed my voting and it took a good hour. I use a system for judging which seems to work quite well for me.

I first do a methodical 'scan' sorting the entries by -

a) Images that evoke the competition theme.

b) Composition and aesthetic quality.

c) Technical merit.

This gives me a 'wheat from the chaff' list

I do a further grading (a,b and c) on each, from the above list. This gives me a quick final list that I can refer back to. Thus I am able to include/exclude the top images to make my final decision. (hope all that makes sense)

Using the above, I found the following for this competition -

Third place (c): 20 entries

Second place (b): 18 entries

First place (a): 10 entries

It was still difficult choice from those top ten

I wish I'd been paying attention! I normally don't feel up to par for these contests, but for this theme I have one I'd have loved to enter just to see.

Regardless there are lots of really good entries here. This is going to be a long decision-making process this time...
