Doesn't the restriction of 900 pixels maximum apply any more?

With the increasing average screen size, we're going to be phasing out that rule in favor of a max. filesize policy.

Check out this thread if you'd like to limit image width on the forum to fit your screen.

Names on photos

I’m still rather new here but not to photo contest. I saw 4 photos with names on them. I’m sorry but I don’t vote on photos with signatures no matter how good they are and I feel they should be disqualified. If they have a fan club they get most of the votes.

If a photographer is worried about their work being stolen then let me offer a solution. Hopefully you have a copy of your photo in either jpeg or a PDF. Instead of placing your name, place this: “Contest photo” This way your photo is still protected and no one will know who took it.

Actually, I was more concerned with the other side of the issue: some users abide by the rules as they are now and submit a (small) image at 900 pixels while others don't bother with the rules and submit larger pictures.

If you could get everyone to always follow the rules, the world would be a different place.

Name in exif

And is it allowed to have your name in the Exif data?

Yes- EXIF information isn't read for photos in this section, so it doesn't matter what it does or does not contain.

From the contest rules:

QuoteQuote:
  • To avoid voting bias, please do not watermark your photos with your username (but rather with your real name or website if needed)

Changing the rule to file size is good.
But, when this change is completed, violators' submissions should be disqualified unless & until they bring their submission into compliance.
I'm sick of watching "competitions" where "normal" people are "competing" with cheaters on steroids. This isn't baseball, after all.
Preserving the anonymity of the entries is also very important.
I too am "new" here. Are there any guidelines re. how voters are supposed to "weight" the different aspects of the entries (i.e. "technical" merit vs. "composition" vs. overall "artistic" merit/impact) ?
While writing this, it occurs to me to ask for confirmation if entries are supposed to be a "single photo," rather than a composite of foregrounds, backgrounds, etc. from different photos ? I ask because I liked one entry in this competition a lot, but I did not vote for it because I could not shake the feeling that a good subject had been photoshopped over a VERY good background from a different photo.
Thanks.

Wow, tough competition. I voted for ones that I thought represented the them best. The trouble is, there are lots of great photos that I wasn't sure were about decay as much as the others.

I thought the theme was 'Man and Nature'. I failed to see the connection in a lot of those photos.

Thats a different comp... this is "Decay" And geez it was hard to choose. I'm finding it more difficult each month. The quality of shots is just getting better and better.

I'm sorry but I'm new to posting for contests on this forum. With the monthly contest and the B&H contest I have been thoroughly confused as to what rules and where to post.

If your just coming into the site from the outside with no link regarding the B&H contest (maybe it is just me) you can not find the gallery of the B&H contest. That path is PentaxForums.com > Pentax User Photo Gallery > PentaxForums.com Events > B&H Photo Contest

This one is PentaxForums.com > Photo Sharing and Galleries > Monthly Photo Contests > Contest Voting > Contest Poll Contest #47 Voting (Decay)

There seemed to be a different set of rules for each contest and that is understandable but just is not very clear when your posting where to post and for what.

One contest has a set of rule watchers and they voice there concerns which are vaild for that contest, but not for the other. The other contest also has a set of rule watchers and they voice their concerns which appear the opposite of the other contest. Nobody is going to be perfectly happy I think.
