I am the first to say the Photoshop or Lightroom does its part in taking an extraordinary shot and giving it that extra oomph to make it perfect. I shoot sports and landscape, so plenty of room for it there. But I guess I'm just thinking that for contest purposes, an unretouched photo reflects the pure capability of the photographer. It's rather like the Tour de France. If the winner is found to be using performance enhancements, they lose their title. Pure is more honorable, in competition.

At the very least, it might narrow down the number of entries.
There may have already been one, but a contest just for untouched photos would be kinda cool

All excellent points. I should have clarified that the reason I stated my initial question, is because the contest was about a color, and colored filters abound. A photo that would otherwise be gray, but turned Orange via filter for the sake of contest eligibility, simply seemed unauthentic to me. But I concur that the end result really is, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And very true, that the freedom to vote by one's own standards is available, and so much the better.

Oh, and my point about fewer entries, was simply one of my own moot aggravation that to read this thread, I have to wait 5 minutes while my older computer downloads all 150 images again, since they are all loaded into one thread. An upgrade awaits me.

I think that once there's over a certain amount of pictures it's overkill and your eyes get exhuasted. maybe have two groups or something?

[langtitle=fr]ORANGE ou couleur orange ?[/langtitle]

We must remember though, all oranges (the fruit) are not the same!

I caught this one attacking my cell phone.

And, no, there was absolutely NO post-processing or photoshopining

There's a whole lot of PS and PSE being employed to come up with something orange. And a lot of red and yellow trying to pass for orange...

Interesting. Just learned something:

If you power up the K-x with a manual lens, input the focal length for SR, and turn SR off (or it's turned off automatically with the self-timer), the FL doesn't appear in the EXIF.

I found all the photos to be much better than the ones submitted the previous month. In fact, I would probably disqualify one or two maximum. Be creative means that, be creative. Picaso drew couple of lines that looked like a dove and it sold for millions recently. If the guy just shot an orange, that is simple, but there was a lot of thinking behind it. I just came from the LA Museum of Contemporary Artist and there was a painting hanging with NOTHING on it, just the plain signed canvas. ALthought there was nothing but his signature, it does not mean the artist was not creative. Sometimes, nothing is better than too much. And less is more. Well, old photographers know what compososing in the field means. New photoshop photographers know how to crop.

Number 151 looks good! I remember the monitor saying: the subject is orange, not the fruit, but the color.

One of the interesting things about photography, is that the photographer is as unique as the image they are capturing.

Some might say sunsets are mundane but at the same time others might say that an orange colored splotch on a gray board might be mundane. While there may be a good number of sunsets presented, tell me...are any two of them exactly the same?

Once you start tossing similiar shots into a category, you're losing an objective eye. To me, each shot, wether it was a sunset or an abstract form required a closer view...to try and see what that photographer was seeing. Perhaps I could learn from it, but at the very least, I appreciate thier effort.

But in the end, it all comes down to what appeals to the individual.

As for me, photo number 30 is absolutely amazing and I would hope to be able to capture a shot like that someday!
