Contest #55: March, 2011 (Spring)
Posted By: Adam, 03-01-2011, 12:49 AM

The theme for the official PentaxForums.com photo contest for March, 2011 is:

Spring
...not the simple machine

There will be two prizes for the winner of this contest and of future contests: featuring in our premier gallery, as well as 25 forum reputation points- a large step toward 'Pentaxian' status, added attachment space, and Marketplace access! As usual, please do not post your submissions in this thread; see above! Limit one photo per user. Good luck to all participants! If this is your first contest, you may be interested in reading rules and procedure below.

Contest Procedure | Contest Rules | Submit | Vote for February's Winners

We invite everyone to participate in this month's contest and also vote for last month's entries! The poll will be posted in early March.

As always:
  • One photo per user. Please post only one submission thread. Our automated system only checks the latest post within that thread, so if you are updating your entry, please do so in a reply or make an edit to your original post.
  • Photo must be between 300x300 and 1024x1024 pixels, and smaller than 1Mb
  • We prefer that your photos are submitted as attachments - they load faster, and guarantee that you're within limits

For us Adrian, it was three months ago. Does that sound any closer for you?

So Adam, you ruled out the hardware. How about the verb?

I'm very far north in the northern hemisphere, and spring is still far away :P About two months I would think.

Selbstverständlich....

But probably you could dig in your archives, I've heard that is allowed for this one....

"Selbstverständlich"?

It is also obvious that you could search in you archive for some Autumn pics, no? There are several conventions that seem obvious, but they are just decisions.

What about making a contest about South-America? Or even Chinese landscapes? What about turning the official language of the forum to chinese? It also seem obvious because most of the population in the world speak chinese.

With such things you eliminate potential participants and put alway pentaxians with nice original photos about non-obvious things. Please, be more creative with the topics. The topic "obvious" would be very interesting.

Best

Luiz

March isn't exactly "spring time" here in Virginia either... No theme is guaranteed to fit everyone's situation personally or be timed particularly well for you. Heck, sometimes they are purposely difficult. Think a little... If it's a genre you shoot, dig into your archives. That is always permitted in the monthly contests. If it's something you don't shoot or just doesn't interest you, then wait for the next contest... There'll be a new one along next month...

You could also think about interpreting the theme creatively rather than just giving up. How about "What its like in Central Australia when it is Spring in the northern hemisphere." Naturally that's a tougher sell but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

If I've got this right, it's the theme of "spring", but shooting macro only ?

Am I correct ??

No MACRO requirement... there was a typo in the opening post... The theme is simply "Spring"

Can I just point out that there are many many themes that are potentially "unfair" to at least some people? "Beach" if you live inland, "water" if you live in the desert, "portrait" if you are too shy to shoot other people", "weather" if you live in a boring place (ahem, Ireland). But in each case, one can be creative to work around the problem.

Or, simply sit out that month -- it is permitted!

Of course I would say that, wouldn't I? Because it is Spring here in Ireland. Chortle chortle.

spring and autumn dont mean much here in Perth.
we have had the last couple months above 30 C.
first rain for several months last week for 1 hour.
cyclones coming down the coast all wind and no water.
the trees dont change colour and drop their leaves.
summer looks like winter.
i'll wait till theres a subject that means something.

wouldnt mind a bit of your boring Irish weather.
send us some of your rain please.

I wish I could!

In fact, it doesn't rain that much here, though people are fond of complaining about it. Rained much more back in Canada, and much fiercer as well.

Spring.. does that mean when the sun peeks out between snow storms in march? j/k it has finally let up and started to swing into spring mode.. one day we'll even see something green! Probably not until mid April though, unless I snowblow my lawn!
