This photo was taken on Cadillac Mountain during National Parks Week on Earth Day 2011.

Cadillac Mountain, in Acadia National Park, is considered to be the first place in America to see the sun rise each day. It's summit is the highest point within 25 miles (40 km) of a coastline on the U.S. East Coast as well as down to the Yucatán Peninsula.

Landscape orientation would do wonders for this shot. Great scene though.

...or rather a panorama... but this in itself is a beauty, a vector of Earth itself - you can practically see the curve of the horizon.

Makes me miss the place too - I biked over the lower approach to Cadillac twice a day, commuting to work, for a few summers in the 70s.

Thank you for your feed back, and thoughtful comments. Landscape/ panoramic images are so nice when taking images on mountain tops. It is the format I use when I reach peaks when hiking.

Unfortunately I was unable to take the image in the landscape/panoramic format on that day. There was image clutter in the shot, and lots of other people wandering around.
