I, for one, am tired of seeing snapshots of people's kids.

I'm sure you think your kid is the best thing to grace the face of this Earth, but it's just another kid to the rest of us.

Every time I vote, I'm reminded how personal and subjective these pictures are. I try to be as unbiased as possible, but have found that for me the best way to vote is to just go through looking at them and see how many make me go either "I'll have to try that" or make me pause and enjoy the picture. Then I go back through slower or cull if I've more than the number of allowed votes. This time, only 7 did that. There were plenty more that looked great, had nice technique, and so on, but only these 7 truly grabbed my attention and got my vote.

Actually it isn't. When I started to go to the local photoclub, the first thing they said was, don't bring pictures of your kids. As you almost always think the picture is better than it actually is.

Photography is art. Art is subjective. A photo that you think is a "snapshot" could be award winning by someone else. My advice is to listen to your instincts and submit what you think is great. Don't listen to "them."

For what it's worth, I would not consider yours a snapshot either. I actually like your pic.

Some superb shots again I see. I love looking at them, it inspires me.

However when I first go into submit my vote it shows the photos separately with details of user names etc., it usually doesn't show this until after voting has closed??

Actually, thinking about this comment; for example, if the competition theme was 'portaits' I don't think it would matter if the subject was a relation of the photographer or not. In fact sometimes the 'relationship' the subject has with the photographer can be what makes a portrait brilliant, so I guess if it were the child of a photographer this could be an advantage.

Also, I know a lot of photos I have taken that I think are terrific, is not necessarily shared by others - no matter what the subject of the photo is! - it's entirely personal.
