I agree with you, in that usually there is a story behind each picture although the significance is so personal that it is lost to anybody outside the circle of knowledge.
There were some good compositions based on sound techniques and rules of thumb, but none that seem to tell me a story, or intrigue me to want to look longer to find the story in the picture.

... or am I expecting too much?
Well only you can determine that, but the gist of your expectations is about right. Great images draw viewers in to want to explore more about the subject. When captured in a way that creates intrigue, there is more interest and appeal to the photograph.

This is a site dedicated to discussion, reviews, news, and opinions about photography. Part of photography is constructive criticism. Sorry to post my opinion, because apparently the only opinions worth posting are

"Oh my god you I loooooove your pic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Super!"

If you can't take any general feedback about your picture other than statements similar to above, you may want to reconsider entering such public photo contests. Don't post pictures on a public site if your skin is too thin to take a general comment directed at subject matter. I did not reference a single poster or a single photo. Just general subject matter. My original comment was in no way rude, hateful, or derogatory. Constantly postings pics of your kid is lame and annoying for those of us who appreciate art and don't want to feel like we are searching some random persons family scrapbook.

For those who 'have nothing else' to shoot: Part of the photographic experience is to get out of your comfort zone, experience new places, and new things. It's called life and it's passing you by. Taking pics of one thing over and over and over is boring. Sorry if that subject is your kid, and sorry because I know I offended you again.

I don't have a picture in the contest, so what I have to say has nothing to do with that.

First of all, there are relatively few kid pictures in the contest. And some of them are good portraits. How is it you look at 171 shots and decide to rant about a couple? And then, how do you know the problem (if there is one) is with photographers of children? Couldn't it be that your sense of appreciation is narrow and undeveloped?

I'll refrain from openly judging you.

Thanks for your opinion.

Theproblem isn´t with photographing kids, it is with photographing your own kids and submit them in a contest. A random kid is a random kid, if your photo is not good, well so be it. If it is a photo of your own kids, and the photo is not good, well it is not really nice to hear that, as yur own kids are the most beautifull and cutest people on the planet, so how can it not be a good photo?.
I just think that you should be carefull with submitting photo´s of your own kids into a contest, as your opinion will be even more corouled about the photo tha it normaly is.

Some of them are out of subject, like portraits. Photos suppose to be "in subject".
