The photo itself is probably not the most remarkable image of a bird, but I'm submitting it anyway because of the 'how' behind taking it.
I took this photo with my DA35mm F2.8 Limited Macro lens. Of course, the image has been cropped, but I was still within an arm's length from the creature when I took it. I was able to get that close by hiding my face behind the camera, and then slowly - ever slowly - creeping toward the Magpie. I'm still amazed I was able to get that close since Magpies are notoriously intelligent and skittish around people.
The K-5's terrific sensor did the rest.
