Surprisingly low number of pictures to select from, despite pretty obvious and interesting theme... Most of them are about "pattern" rather than "symmetry".
So, my choice was simple -
#6 is one of few others following the theme, also has very good quality
#20 is from "pattern", but anyway very well done
#12 is also very interesting...

I am not sure "reflection" counts as an example of "symmetry" either. ch

I liked #20 too but didn't vote for it as I'd like to have seen more of the vertical.

I think the low number to choose from is because folks just didn't post symmetrical images - like, they posted mostly asymmetrical images~!

I think #6 might be the only one that is essentially symmetrical..

I absolutely agree with these and want to add #26 to them.

According to photoinf.com..........

"Another way to achieve balance is through symmetry. Reflections of the landscape in still water are an example of almost perfect symmetry. Reflections can take on an abstract quality that resembles a Rorschach inkblot used in a psychological testing."

posting your poll picks

I thought the point of making the poll anonymous was so as not to influence others. I realize that some do their picking first but to openly discuss the choices seems to defeat the purpose. Just my 1 cent - haven't earned the right yet to give 2
Some really interesting choices and Kudos to those who didn't just use the standard concept of symmetry but went that step further for their main subject.

These are the ones I liked:

#26 - This is a very well composed, and exposed photo, and it's just pleasing to the eye. The overcast day adds to its appeal.

#6 - Very well done.

#31 - An 8 pointer! (my father used to hunt)

Just because the theme is "symmetry" does not mean that the image must be totally symmetrical, does it? That seems to be a very restrictive interpretation.

My submission is about symmetry but also speaks to the denial of absolute symmetry. It is a formal exercise, almost a theorem, and I would doubt it would get chosen by many. But it means a lot to me. :-)

6, 20, and 26 in that order. Interesting pics and I suppose I do have a thing for bridges though! Good effort all!

symmetry..

This is how I explain symmetry to my class... no offense that part of them are 1st graders...

Symmetry is anything that can be folded in half to match up perfectly.

Then I use examples of cutting out hearts and squares.. To my reflection is one of the easier forms so symmetry there is..

IMHO.. Kim
