Originally posted by misomosi I'm newbie on pentaxforums, newbie in photography. I participated in this competition with a photo that I think is very much in the teme, spot on, right moment, right place and not the least - quite epic. I wasn't even thinking of not getting at least in the finals.
However, I'm disappointed to find that some finalist photos are not even in the theme (#15 which is otherwise a very good photo), some rather plain and uninteresting (no notion of right moment/place, #7 #11) or disturbingly obviously edited photo like #10.
As I said, I'm a newbie in this bussiness, I may not know how to do photos or how to criticise but here are my two cents:
- number of nominations proves (at least for me, but I doubt it) to be irrelenvant in some cases
- therefore, I suggest that some sort of a jury be made to see if the photos are in theme, if they make up to some quality standards etc.
I don't really care about this competition anymore as I'm most likely not to participate in the future. But please, save some frustration from future newbies like me when they join such a comunity, supposedly democratic and qualitative.
My vote goes for #5 for the interesting interpretation of the theme.
The fox picture is a bit of a mystery, unless the end of the branch he is sniffing is "covered" or "wrapped" in something (looks like bubblegum!). As all of the fox's attention is on this one small point, I do believe that the idea is for us to pay attention to that too.
In #7 the lady's head is wrapped; #11 is a covered bridge and as for #10, I don't believe that there are any rules determining the amount of post-processing allowed and in fact I have often been put off by the amount of LR'ing and PS'ing I've seen here.
