In Old New York -- nominate photo
I nominate this photograph! Breathtaking, nostalgic, and surreal -- harking back to the quiet elegance of old New York at Christmas. The blurs add a feeling of frost-breath against a window pane, and a touch of ghostly dream-like memories. It also feels like the opening to The Nutcracker ballet -- scenery about to rise up to reveal Clara's party and Drosselmeyer's magic. And the sharps draw me into the windows with silhouettes that seem both contemporary and reminiscent of another time. The composition is really strong with the rhythm of wreaths and moulding designs...the beauty of architecture rapidly disappearing from the city, accentuated by the choice of silvery black and white. Extremely emotional and filled with holiday spirit!
