Don't know about the disaster, but I imagine a ghost having a seat.

Granted the Salton was an accident, and arguably a disaster, but a salty inlet and then a salty lake existed at that spot long before humans diverted the Colorado, and the present sea is a significant avian wildlife sanctuary, provided it doesn't get too much saltier. If you want a sea where humans have brought about disaster, google ARAL SEA (if you don't know about it already)
