Nominated! Both abstract and figurative, Crinoline Cascade not only fills the frame to bursting, but also fills the mind with multi-layered meditations. The composition simultaneously offers a feeling of compression and expansion. Although a photograph of man-made fabric, it carves space as if a natural formation caused by erosion and crystallization. Enhanced by the color and subtle variations in tone and texture, the shapes are reminiscent of other aspects of nature -- coral, waterfalls, flowers just past peak bloom and in the process of decay, the structure of RNA, and also of our "grey matter." An ongoing dance for the eye and mind...Brilliant!
