Cut a section of the upper floor out and drop it onto a massive iron frame, then pull up a chair - voila! - conference table. That's what they did at Central Park NC, a nonprofit dedicated to providing a focused means of growing and developing creative enterprises and programs for the community and region. They are renovating the old Carolina Collegiate and Agricultural Institute which served as home to several factories after the college closed. This space will be offices and a meeting room. The table will be used in the meeting room.

I was just thinking about the concept of 're-purposing' this morning. I'd love to meet the clever person who came up with this idea. They say every picture tells a story - some just raise a lot of questions. How on earth did they lower this large, heavy section onto the frame? What was the frame originally for? Which superhero walked through the brick wall to create the 'doorway'?

Thanks for the comment. I wasn't there when they lowered it, but I know it took some ingenuity and quite a few people. You can get answers to your questions if you come for a visit to STARworks Center for Creative Enterprise. There's a blown glass festival this weekend.
