Once again it is a very tough decision with so many excellent photos presented.

However, there is one that stands out markedly because the photographer did not "Go out to find the sunrise/sunset" The only one out of the 15 finalists.
With imagination and good framing the photographer has captured the essence of the sun in a frame within a frame. Many pictures within a picture. Brilliant. I love it.

#10 is another great photo for it's simplicity and tranquil beauty.

Well done all finalists and good luck in the judging.

A sunset is allways a nice and dramatic thing to watch. Many times a sunset overwhelmes you when the sky and and especially the clouds show their spectaculair colours.
Nothing to say about a sunrise, this is sometimes even more spectaculair.

To see a sunrise is one thing, all things must come together in one instance: hour of the day, the situation, landscape, objects a.s.o. But to take a well exposed photo is another thing. To my opinion number 2 is the best from all, for there is more than only a sunset.
You see a rocky landscape with a pronounced foreground. Because of the big lightcontrasts between fore- and background when pointing the camera to the direct sunlight many times the fore- or the background suffers from too much or too less light. It is difficult to find a precise balance between them.
The photographer from number 2 knew what he was doing. To avoid too much contrasts he kept the source of the light out of his frame, just enough to keep the impression of heavy sunlight behind the rocky bridge. He also choosed for the position to have a look-through and so giving a perspective about what the landscape is about: wide, rocky, dry, uneven rough ground. The photo shows depth!
The bridge itself is placed at one-third from the upper frameborder and the far horizon is positioned at almost one-third from the right border.
One-thirds are the ideal lines and points in a composition and working here together your eyes are attrackted to them to fullfill your curiousity. The landscape carries a sense of wonder as if it is not from our planet.
Both fore- and background are sharp, and well exposed.

It must have taken several efforts to find his point of view. Just in time, for sunsets do not wait for you.
My compliments.

"Only users who registered prior to the announcement of the current photo contest..."

Hi all,

Does anyone know why I get this message:

Only users who registered prior to the announcement of the current photo contest are eligible to vote

I was registered well before that...

Cheers!
