There are some outstanding images in this contest. But I agree with Leo, if they were NOT taken in August then they should be disqualified. Anyone can dig around on their hard drive for their best night shot. I don't think that is the intent of THIS particular contest.
What do you think Adam?

If you have a challenge - then limit the images to the period of the challange. If it is a contest (like here) then let it cover all of your images. I have a few Night images that I could have used - but they were all taken over a year ago. I can get images when I am have down time or I am on vacation, but not during "normal" periods, due to the timing constraints of my job etc.

So if there was to be a contest theme - say Summer - then which hemisphere would be able to participate? Only those in the Northern one - since December is Summer in Austrailia, New Zealnd, Fiji, Chile, South Africa etc. No - I disagree - the images are of the themes - not of the month. My entry for last months contest was taken in 2005, my alternative was taken in 2006.

Would you limit Ansel Adams to not use Moonrise over Hernandez - just because he did not take it in June? I think not.

I do wish however, that people would read and follow the instructions on size, boarders and text on these images. That said, Adam has way too much to do to keep all of us children in line.

If this "contest" becomes like the 90 window challanges on other sites - then I quit. Here and now.

Nope, the Official Rules state: "Submissions do not have to be taken in the same month as the contest" (see here).
Therefore, if you do not agree with the rules, you might want to try to introduce changes, but read them before arguing with the fairness of some submissions. Not knowing is not an excuse!

Odd, I didn't receive any emails about the voting being closed, which I think I'd received before- obviously the poll is closed, so an early congrats to the winner!

That is a stunning image in terms of the exposure, color, and all the technicalities of getting a great night shot!

I hope this isn't too early since not in showcase, but I want to thank everyone for there votes. Although the picture wasn't taken in the month of August it was take just a few months ago. I got my very first slr, the K10d in January. My first contest entry also so I quess its beginners luck.
Heres another shot taken last weekend. The first shot was taken with the Sigma 17-70, this one with my Tamron 28-75. I miss the wide end.

BTW whatever the outcome, I hope we can all come to some kind of agreement. Though we will always disagree at some point there remains the one common factor. The love of photograhgy.

I was down there again the other night and took some shots at a different angle. I was all thumbs for some reason and none of them turned out. Need to get back there again because I liked the angle if I can get them to turn out.
Still haven't figured out this month yet
