Oh my goodness. I had to go with the impossible exposure of possibly the lowest species depicted, a species I have still never gotten a one star picture of. I don't even have a single picture of the species in my collection. Very well done to all these incredible photos.

Usually I can make my choice relatively quickly in these contests, not this time. I really had to peruse through these repeatedly. Some unique visions here!

Decisions decisions decisions.

Oh boy is this a tough one. All are winners in their own right. Alas, there can be but one overall.

If these were broken down into categories; ie Water birds, field birds forest birds raptors etc, each would surely win it's own field.

Besides artistic values there is also the spontaneous cuteness appeal of some of these photos. Response to this is infectious and influential.

So after much ado, I have made my choice.
Congratulations to all submissions making it this far and the best of luck in the voting.

Very good job, everybody! Difficult to pick just one, there's not even one I wouldn't like...!

It might be interesting to see some statistic about used lenses afterwards.

Birds

I can only dream of achieving this level of skill and artistry. The incredibly sharp focus and detail of some of these photos are simply awesome. Well done, all.

It is an Australian bird - Spotted Pardalote ( Pardalotus punctatus). Thought I might save the photographer from identifying himself/herself ahead of time.

#4...Green Heron is first choice here and this time the runner up should be #1...A classic ' working bird ' and a rare beauty all in one. TG
