Wrapped up in each other they seemed oblivious to the host of passersby on a busy walkway adjacent to this patch of lawn in Central Park on a midsummer's day. Though perhaps they were just performing.

Exquisite -- intimate yet universal. Reminiscent of a 19th century voyeuristic "key-hole" painting. The use of black and white also adds a feeling of 1950s cinema heightened by the warm tone and luminous treatment of their bodies -- as if glowing from two sources: passion within and the sun. Interesting setting because it looks more like autumn than summer -- dead grass and leaves -- desires oblivious to the dreary landscape as well as passers-by. What makes this image especially brilliant is that, although candid, the composition contains so many formal nuances -- both symmetrical and asymmetrical and the tilt adds motion as well as triangles above and below; the closed geometric shape created by the arms echoing their private world; the figure 8 formed by their heads. Her shoe on the left is like another fallen leaf. Even the contours in the girl's hair are similar to folds in the clothing. It seems impossible to have captured. NOMINATED!
