Peak foliage time in Maine: A detailed landscape
Posted By: SPLewis, 03-02-2019, 09:14 AM

I'm fascinated by the landscape here in northern New England, and always try to challenge myself to "see" details that can easily be missed by just standing there and looking at a big scene. This is a small detail from a panoramic landscape at an old beaver pond in western Maine. The scene was utterly stunning and all-encompassing and my wife and I marveled at our timing: the location, light, color, and majesty were just perfect. There wasn't a soul around, and it was completely still and quiet. I made lots of big, wide shots of the entire scene, and then got creative at "seeing" the essence of what was in front of us. The long lens and unorthodox view perfectly captured (if somewhat abstractedly) the beauty at the heart of autumn. One of my favorite photos from 2018.
