It's not about the subject matter (plane, train or whatever) - it's about how well the shot illustrates the brief for the contest. If it happens to be a plane then I believe that's OK even if you are sick of planes. I voted for the black & white motorcycle shot in the preliminaries, I thought it was a good shot illustrating a "machine at work". Unfortunately it didn't make the final.

Wow, it started good, then number two was even better witth its framing then number 5 made it even more interesting.
Number 6 was almost impossible, and I love biplanes such as no 7.
Number nine was even more with the sun star in the image. Ten was cool as cucumber and 12 spectacular as well.
Had number 13 had more contrast it would have been great, number 14 was absolutely unique, it has to be special atmospheric conditions to get that condensation trail of the propeller blades, and 15 was a stunner...

Tough to differentiate some of the top, I don't know.
It's a toss between 15 and 9, but 5 and 2 were good too...
I took 15 in the end.

I originally voted for #12, because it's a terrific shot, but not that pleasing to look at. #2 has a wonderful perspective with great contrast. It is a photo I could see on a wall or transformed into a mural.
Love #15, but it seems too 2-dimensional ion B&W. So #2 it is.

Tough choices, some truly awesome technical shots. Congratulations to the finalists here, really nice work!
Im torn between 1, 6 and 14 but I really like the black and white 15 too for more artistic flair. Every competition I somehow think the next will be easier to pick a winner, but nooooooo.

Number 3 is so amazing. I am blown away. I wish I could learn how to shoot like that. I am surprised that no one is talking about. I cant take my eyes of it. I also liked 5, and 9. But 3 does it for me. Wow. Just wow.

#2 for me. As I looked thru some of the post it does show much chance of winning. But the still shots of the circles makes the train movement look even faster. Great capture.

I was thinking the same thing?

Nice viewpoint from camera angle. The picture brought to my mind, a tune recorded by Rush, called "Red Barchetta" ! My favorite, for sure.
