So hard, but no. 13 is my pick. It says something about action at the most basic level.

Number 9 expresses the things I like in an action photo, design, space, motion, and emotion. Great photo.

I won't say which photo I voted for, but I will say that I think a photo's being in sharp focus--that is, the subject of the photo--is overrated, especially when it comes to action photography. Cartier-Bresson once said, "Sharpness is a bourgeois concept." There are times sharpness is absolutely what's needed in a photograph. There are also times I strive too hard to achieve it.

One of my favorite photographs is Paul Caponigro's "Running White Deer," in which the deer themselves are largely smooth arcs of motion in varying degrees of gray, set against a darksome forest that's in sharp focus.

I think many of the images here are great photographs, including ones that people have already praised. It takes an incredible amount of patience, knowledge and understanding--not just of photography, but of the subject itself--to achieve what some of the photographers have achieved here. But that's true of photographs which are exposed for just the right length of time to capture just the right amount of blur, especially in contrast to the subject's surroundings. To achieve that on film as Caponigro did with "Running White Deer" . . . well, for me, it's a transcendent image by a transcendent photographer.

Still, that horse, that tennis player and her shadow, that skier . . . I sure wouldn't mind capturing an image on par with those, either. . . .

There are some really good action shots here. I feel that printing on entries should be discontinued however.

#4: Reminds me of the scene in "The hitch hikers guide to the universe" where a flamboyant protagonist shows off in a motorboat to give him votes, he wants to be President of the Universe so he can steal a very special space ship.

A great group of images. One of the more difficult contests to choose just one. Good luck and congratulations to all the finalists.

Great shots all

All images exceed my photographic talent. Still I chose the doggie, a boring moment that photograph made magnificent by capturing the dynamics flavored with just the right amount of humor.

For me this month's images have been the most difficult to choose a favorite. Congratulations to every finalist.
