I was almost not going to vote - just too hard. For starters, they are all amazingly in focus - amazingly, that is, for moving subjects. Many of them have caught an amazing moment - the heron or egret with the snake, the eagle just about to catch a fish, the gulls or terns both with their beaks on a small fish. The two front-on shots of the owls - especially no 10, so confronting - are so brilliantly shot. Love them all.

But in the end went for no 8, for reasons similar to m00nstruck. Yes, totally ordinary subject(s) - but such a brilliantly composed frame, and photographic impact. A moment in time suspended for ever!

For all the other competitors - just being included in this collection has to an honour. Absolutely no losers here, as many others have said.
