No, it was Saw-whet! (that's my side of humour!) It was a lovely quiet morning in our back yard. I saw this owl, more specifically a Northern Saw-whet Owl,flying a bit out of its natural habitat range. It was mid September, and this li'l fella drops by to visit; perched very nicely, so as to give me advantage of the fill light too!; the sunlight reflected off our bedroom window.That's what added the pop highlights to both eyes; and as the light filtered through the sumac branches, it just happened to add a bit more light to the face. I knew I'd have to try and grab a shot. My Pentax was right here; but my brand new 300mm Pentax lens was upstairs. Do I dare try to run for it? NO. Good thing I didn't; I caught this and 2 other shots, before a group of magpies came by squawking, and the little fellow flew off. I had up my ISO to 800 to get a reasonable shutter speed due to the max aperture on this lens, and I cropped it in a fair bit you'll see in the EXIF... wished I'd had my 300 handy! But to see it was a delight! This li'l bird is a first for me; to add a "lifer" to my birdwatching life-list.Oh yes. This owl is a tiny one; barely the size of an American Robin; merely 6-7" tall. Oh, the joys of seeing, and sharing. "Every day is filled with new things just waiting to be discovered" ~gwd.
