Calm Waters

During winter, I headed down to the nearby Hotham River (Western Australia) before sunrise. The morning was very calm, and there was fog resting in the valley. This section of the river is relatively wide for its flow, so the water was moving slowly. I set up my tripod half in the river and the camera reasonably close to the water surface as I could without slipping in myself, and used the DFA 28-105 @ 48mm plus a ND filter to slow the shutter speed to make the water look even more glassy! The spiderwebs intertwined amongst the old tree trunks swayed gently in the light breeze, and the fog partially obscured the dead trees on the far side of the river - there wasn't much colour to really remove from the photo for the final product. I don't know why the trees are like that, but it does look like the river could have slightly changed course sometime in the past, so perhaps they were simply in the way of nature's change.
