Brilliant graphic image filed with wit.* The colors and flat shapes feel like a wink to Matisse but go beyond with superimposed shapes that can be seen as both flat and sculptural.* Although more figurative, the image makes me think of a Calder mobile in movement with shadows projected from the shapes, and the subject reminds me of his playful circus. At first I thought it was the same image reversed, and then realized that each image is different -- like a variation on a theme within a musical fugue.* Usually a traditional photograph freezes the motion to capture a moment that can't be seen by the naked eye, but by transforming*and combining these photographs, the artist has created the dynamic back and forth swing of trapeze artists reaching out to catch each other.* Also calligraphic as if forming a new language.* NOMINATED!
