This image of frost in an upstairs north-facing window is from New Year's Day, 2011. The temperature was moderately low in Spring Green, Wisconsin that morning at 13° F, and the wind was 23 mph from the SW, gusting over 30 mph. Only the day before the high temperature had been in the mid-to-upper 40s. Maybe those are the conditions conducive for this particular kind of frost.

Beautiful. Very "artsy". Wisconsin does have some unique opportunities for photos, doesn't it?

I've made frost photos every year we've been in this house, I think, mostly in that north-facing window, though sometimes on storm doors and other windows. There are so many different kinds of frost, and it was hard to decide which to go with. I'm glad you liked this one, though apparently frost doesn't get a lot of views. That's okay: I'll keep looking in that window every winter. . . . :-)
