This is a star trail photo taken during a "super" moon, which may explain why there are not more stars visible. Ayer's rock, also known as Uluru is pretty much slap bang in the middle of Australia, the so called dead heart. Can you imagine the excitement of the first white explorers as they discovered this? A giant monolith that rises out of the desert, a truly mystical and wonderous place. The local indigenous folk have declared it sacred and climbing it is forbidden. This photo was a mix of quite a few photos taken over a 90 minute period. The big colours are due to the final photo being edited in Picasa. Really quite cool how the star trails have different colours. The big red rock you see is actually that colour by day but I was amazed at how vivid the colour was with the long exposure shots. Alas, I noticed too late that there was dust on the sensor. I tried to remove it but my skill are unfortunately not quite good enough.
