The Milky Way rises over a nearly frozen Tioga Lake, CA.
Processing Workflow: This is a 2-frame vertical panorama incorporating 15 total exposures, combined in Sequator. This is not a composite; that is, neither the position nor size of milky way with respect to the mountain have been altered. Exposure stacking was incorporated to achieve mathematical noise reduction.
Additionally, because the actual view was nearly totally black to the naked eye, the overall exposure of the image has been increased significantly. A cool white balance and some global saturation were applied to help convey the feeling of a moonless frozen night. In order to better view dust lanes and nebulosity of the galactic core, stars were lightly de-emphasized using StarXTerminator, free shareware.
