Some surprising disapointments...
...even amongst the numerous very good images. The quality level of sharpening was very lacking & (my aversion) a slanting horizon was too common.
My considerations in voting were:
1. Technical integrity:
Sharpness (when & where visually important), a properly aligned horizon, free of noise & other technical aberrations, framing, appropriate brightness, tonally anchored (true black & white existing somewhere in the image)
2. Content:
Harmony in tone & colour, balance of compositional elements, dynamic & engaging.
3. Successful delivery of the Brief guidelines.
In brief, the best to me were:
fs999's - Paris Sunset, visually excellent but being very soft & unsharp power & impact is diminished.
TaoMaas's - Golden Windows, nothing to criticize here, very well captured, great composition & framing, nicely pped.
cbaytan's - Is a City all right, excellent image, but does it meet the Brief? To me, yes it does. What may be a village to some, could very well be a city to others. Excellent b&w conversion, great depth in perspective & drama
skeuos's - Refraction, excellent tonal treatment of shadow detail, highlights, & composition. Dramatic.
xs400's - San Francisco and the Bay Bridge, excellent visually, moody, great perspective & again, unnecessarily soft.
travieso profundo's - When The Sun Leaves Valencia, excellent capture & mood, great pp treatment, perhaps could be a little brighter in the mid tones & highlights. Is it leaning a little to the right?
bt*ist's - Canyons, ordered chaos, very nice b&w conversion, drama, tension & somehow a little scary.
Thanks to all who submitted. I enjoyed looking.
Cheers
