Some surprising disapointments...

...even amongst the numerous very good images. The quality level of sharpening was very lacking & (my aversion) a slanting horizon was too common.

My considerations in voting were:

1. Technical integrity:
Sharpness (when & where visually important), a properly aligned horizon, free of noise & other technical aberrations, framing, appropriate brightness, tonally anchored (true black & white existing somewhere in the image)

2. Content:
Harmony in tone & colour, balance of compositional elements, dynamic & engaging.

3. Successful delivery of the Brief guidelines.

In brief, the best to me were:

fs999's - Paris Sunset, visually excellent but being very soft & unsharp power & impact is diminished.

TaoMaas's - Golden Windows, nothing to criticize here, very well captured, great composition & framing, nicely pped.

cbaytan's - Is a City all right, excellent image, but does it meet the Brief? To me, yes it does. What may be a village to some, could very well be a city to others. Excellent b&w conversion, great depth in perspective & drama

skeuos's - Refraction, excellent tonal treatment of shadow detail, highlights, & composition. Dramatic.

xs400's - San Francisco and the Bay Bridge, excellent visually, moody, great perspective & again, unnecessarily soft.

travieso profundo's - When The Sun Leaves Valencia, excellent capture & mood, great pp treatment, perhaps could be a little brighter in the mid tones & highlights. Is it leaning a little to the right?

bt*ist's - Canyons, ordered chaos, very nice b&w conversion, drama, tension & somehow a little scary.

Thanks to all who submitted. I enjoyed looking.

Cheers
Stomie

On the voting form it says "pick 6", on the result page "you may vote for 5 fotos"... which one is it?
Six it is, the typo has been fixed.

Wow! Superb group of photos. Choice mainly depended on initial reaction. Great job, dudes.

Great work, everyone! Some of 'em are real killers--and I found out that I'm a sucker for a pretty bridge...

(Note to self: make submission in next photo contest.)

I agree with you. Usually I have a tough time getting down to the limit, but this time I only voted for three.

I think it may be a matter of taste. Perhaps cityscapes, as most folks seem to have interpreted them, aren't your thing. I think there were plenty of shots worthy of a vote.
