Photos #22 & #24 show as red X's. Are these photos not viewable? I would like to be able to see all the entries before I cast my vote.

Sometimes there is a problem with the hosting site, sometimes the poster takes the picture down for whatever reason.
It's beyond our control unfortunately, this is why it's best to actually attach the picture to the entry so that this site retains a copy of it.

Thanks Gary. I'll check back tomorrow before I vote.

I wish we had a scoring system for the pictures. Some points for technical excellence, some for aesthetics, and some for the story. What do you say?

This month wasn't the norm Keitha.
See also my comments below.

The comments that have been made about individual entries have been deleted and the idiots who posted them have been notified.

The idiots who have made negative comments will be watched in future. I notice some of them only joined the forum fairly recently. This contest has been going on for a long time and has been enjoyed by a lot of people. If any of you want to spoil other peoples harmless fun I suggest you go elsewhere because you won't get away with it while I'm around.

Can we all now get back to enjoying the competition for what it is. The July contest 'Morning' is open and I'm sure there will be a lot more entries this month.
Thanks a bunch Gary and I apologize for my part as well.

Calling peoples' work crap is very easy....
I am usually open to critisism, but only when I hear a valid argument with it.

And as for "Street photography", it is a very very very wide and possibly elitist subject. We can t expect everyone to deal with it in the same way. And yes snapshot "CAN BE" street photography. Actually from my point of view, the reverse is always true. Street photography is ALWAYS snapshot. The thing that makes it stand out is the "story" (emphasis on the quotes)

Nice work everyone and good luck.

Actually, I live out in the sticks. The above description applies to just about any big city on any continent and even some medium sized cities. However, rural photography is a hole new ball game. My point was that low mouthed critics should be subjected to the same conditions as the photographer.

Case in point from 1975 (I know this is an extreme example but makes my point):

Who was this photo taken by? I've forgotten.

Once again, I'm new to the monthly contest, and didn't know you weren't meant to say who you voted for.

Hmm, this is the first contest I've been a part of, and I must say that I've surprised by the vitriol attached, although I see where most of it is coming from a few sources that didn't actively participate in the contest itself.

Perhaps I am the only one who saw the term "Streets" which is NOT "Street Photography" (I assure you, the letters are very different!) and so assumed that anything featuring a street, as in "a public thoroughfare, usually paved, in a village, town, or city, including the sidewalk or sidewalks" (according to dictionary.com) was being looked for...not close-ups of strangers.

Just saying
Thank You for being the first to make this point! I was reading the thread getting more pissed off ( in the American sense of the term , not the British) by the second . The negative posts were only a part of it . What was really angering me is the fact that the critics had not read or did not understand the contest theme.

Secondly I'd like to say that I have lived in both metropolitan and rural areas and I now see that there is an elitist bias on the subject of "street photography" so I going to jump in my truck and drive three hours to the nearest city to take a picture of a wino crawling out of his box under the bridge for my submission for the MORNING theme of this months competition. Thanks for the idea!

You bring up a good point. In my opinion a street shot can be taken anyplace where you find people or a cool scene. I have many pictures with nobody in them because they are interesting to me.

Here are two pictures that would not be considered street by most, but for me they are. I took these on the 3rd of july while out on a hike. I shot these with my ME SUPER, M50F/1.4 lens and 800 speed fuji film....I thought the pictures where interesting to me, so I took them.

I came across these folks in a tree

I loved this tunnel made of trees.

Nice shots Javier.

Now that I've calmed down a little I made my voting choices. They were based on the following.

THEME MONTHLY CONTEST #34
Streets- Demonstrate the everyday atmosphere or feel of a particular city or town through your photographs.

Good Luck , and thank you to all who have entered!
