This month is not good as previous month, I guess subject was too broad this time, people searched their archives to find something green, like me. I also saw 3-4 pictures messed too much with colors looking very artificial to me.
That part of your comment I completely agree with...in fact I felt far more than 3-4 had been over processed, when just a bit less processing would have made the choices even harder then they were.

I really found a good 10-15 shots that I would love to see on my wall. I say, well done to everyone who entered and THANKS because it's so nice to see so many folks submitting shots, win or not, to me the actual idea is for us all to learn something...

I had about 3-4 real favs...probably not gonna be the winners, I mean not like I know anything...

Well done, Pentaxians!!! It's so nice to see so many great photos being submitted! I so regret that I didn't take the time to enter this month, not that I would have had a chance to end up in one of the top positions, but I had at least two pictures that would have fit perfectly in this mix.

Now, as for voting......and I thought the macro contest was a difficult vote to make....this is even harder.

It was really hard for me this month. I cut it to 21 quickly. With a little more work I cut it to 11. Eliminating the last 3 was much too hard. I think this month was better than the last. This competition definitely shows me that I have a long ways to go with my photography.
Thank you to everyone that entered.

I thought there were a lot of great entry's, I intentionally went out and took a "green" photo but see nothing wrong with looking back in the archives, this month I had the time next month maybe not. I am glad that the entry's increase and people should ENJOY this competition as well, I certainly did. I know that no matter what is done in life there will always be a few that have something negative to say. Constructive is cool, negative =uncool....great job to all who entered.

There's a good many [IMO] OMG photos in here. I'm glad I didn't enter.

I'll admit, I was a little at loss for what to enter; I didn't want to just enter something, anything, with a lot of greenery in it. Seeing a few of the entries, I just realized I had some pretty good shots of a green parrot feeding in a green tree, when I was in Tanzania making for a nice 'camo' wildlife photo, and I have solar panels on my roof so could have done something with that. They may have been good for oh, maybe 4 or 5 votes, not the dozens the winners will get tho.

On a different note, since when is completely manually create art appropriate here? Pretty kewl, but is it a photo? I gotta go look for it now.

I like the voting, where you can give each picture a vote from 1 to 5. that way everyone gets a rating.
It is just so hard to choose 8.

Ya know, I don't think this is a fair or accurate statement in the least. Even if people did pull images from their archives, how are you to know that GREEN (in this case) was not the predominent thought or theme when they shot the photo. Speaking for myself and the photo I submitted, that was indeed the central idea for even taking the photo. In that case, it does not matter in the least when an image was taken.

As for this month's submissions not being as good as last month's (they must really be crappy since you didn't think much of last month's submissions either), I disagree. Numerous outstanding and "appropriate to the theme" photos.

Lowell, I personally would oppose the idea of restricting the monthly competitions to photos taken during the month of the challenge. First, it would seriously delay entries unless the themes were announced a month ahead. And second, I think such a requirement would likely severely cut down on the number and quality of submissions. Everyone simply does not have an equal opportunity to shoot any given genre or subject in any given month. There are also existing opportunities in the Mini Challenges forum that meet that requirement.

Mike
What you said! I didn't submit a photo for this competition, however it would be difficult to come up with a fresh photo for a category during any given month.

The best thing about these competitions is seeing how people interpret the categories. I enjoy looking at other peoples perspectives because it helps me to broaden my own horizons. Just like with posting, everybody will have differing opinions on what appeals to them. It was very tough deciding on eight as there were many great photos to choose from. I think it's great that so many participated.

I wouldn't say lack of good photos as much as I would say lack of photos that fit the theme. Too many of the shots here either do not have enough green as their focal point (with more of another color in the scene), or the color/tint of the green in the shot is just not eye catching enough.

I had no trouble picking 6, but struggled finding the 2 last ones.

To Green...

"To Green" would have been a good title for my submission. I am very green with regards to photography and this is the first real picture I've posted (here or elsewhere). Being "green" I am not sure how to correctly process photos and I have very limited options with regards to post processing. With this in mind I am pretty sure my photo is one of the ones noted as over processed... looking at some of my other pics from the same subject, the green is not as far off as it may seem, but maybe I could post an unprocessed shot of the same subject for some advice when the contest ends... Thanks

Hmmm... I knew this month was going to be difficult, but I didn't expect it to be this hard.

Way too many frames were just filled with green leaves / macro stuff. And I find it rather boring. I mean, loads of quite nice shots and very well done (almost) everyone in the technical sense, but only few that really stand out. Any other colour and there would have been more variety and originality in the shots. Green is just too dominating color out there...

So... As a "protest" I ended up voting on just 6 shots that had something else, though especially some of the landscapes were simply stunning.

And no, I didn't send anything. Had an idea, but simply didn't manage to get the photo the I wanted to.

I was surprised nobody understood "green" to mean more than simply a color (a couple did come close to use the colr in a very subtle fashion though). There are many meanings and uses of a simple word like "green". It is everywhere to be "green" and environmentally friendly use/production of energy, building, waste or what-not...every entry took the literal meaning of the word/term "green"....still lots of nice shots, but there could also have been the emotion of being "green with envy"...just a single word can have a great many interpretations, I have that filed away for when I find the motivation to enter a contest. Your thesaurus can be your friend...many might not "get it" but good works stimulate imagination in interesting directions.

There's a lot of beautiful and clever pictures in this contest as brecklundin noticed ! Really stimulating

But, working with colors and meanings could be misleading in some countries I guess, even in our global world There are some good books about it ... especially for web design.

IMHO one more tricky thing about these contests in general is the size of the pictures. For example, this one may fit the green "environment" idea (even if the blured main subject is white), but most of it is out of focus, and resized for the contest I guess it would be completely messed up, doesn't it ?

Even like this... did you saw the bird ?

Anyway, it sounded too much like an advertizing for a well known car ... and the next generation has already reached the market !
