Good thinking, but I couldn't find a really abstract photograph here, I guess that depends on what is your definition of "abstract photography"?
Perhaps you could give us all some examples of what you think an abstract photograph should look like.

Dear moderator, not for them, I can give links just for you:
What is Abstract Photography? See the Abstract Photo Gallery of Jonathan Steele?
Abstract Art

Also I can remind you goggle. Well don't get mad, you asked for it.

On his website, Mr. Steele (presumably an authority and expert on "abstract photography" in YOUR mind) makes the following statement...

QuoteQuote:
Abstract Photography is the photographic art that is not representational of real objects in the natural world. By taking the essence of the photo or a portion of the photo and by using color and or the form in an aesthetic arrangement or combination, the photographic abstraction becomes art.
... then he proceeds to show photos which he evidently considers to be "abstract photography"... all of which are just photos of real life things and objects which happen to look "abstract".

Many of the photos submitted for this competition are every bit as abstract in form as his, while many are straight photos of subjects which are"abstract" themselves. Some are even abstractions of abstract subjects...

Whats your beef?

Mike

I only asked because you seem to have something negative to say about the contest entries most months. You could try shutting up and letting the rest of us enjoy the contest.
BTW, my previous post (and this one) were not as a moderator but as a member. One who is fed up with some of the crap you come out with periodically.

This is a Moderator comment - If you don't have anything positive to say, please don't bother to say anything.
Thank you for your cooperation.

The problem is abstract means implying it, but apart from concrete existence, but we are the photographers have photograph an existence. It's easier to create an abstract visual art piece other than photography. So as photographers we have to be minimalistic (just a small (or summary) portion of the subject that gives the entire theme of the picture) in the pictures to give them an abstract sense in appearance.

If an art expert or critic comes of with the claim such as " photographs can not be abstracted" my only way of defense would be extreme minimalization should be enough can make photography abstract. Other than very minimalistic approach, I have no other idea for defending photography can be abstract.

For instance how do we make a white wall abstract? Me thinks giving just contours of the wall and maybe just a few speckles on the wall should make the wall abstract.

Thats why I am claiming vast majority of the pictures in this competition is not abstract including mine.

Hoo boy, I did not say negative things in most competitions, my join date is there, if you don't come up with the say at least 7-8 negative things about competitions in each month by me, you know what your adjective will be.

On the other hand you say users things like "shut up" "don't bring up crap here" even as a moderator, I won't comment on them, your words speaks for themselves.. You words should be nice to people especially as a moderator..

People already gave your note here Brit and your hate towards me won't change that, thats why I am not directly answering your words, they're not worth it. I am aware of that you are trying to provocate me to force say something inappropriate then you can drive me off from here, it's so obvious.

IMO you are not really fitting here as a moderator Brit. You've just proved that again. You always do that, I see your very aggressive posts to other people too.

Now you do not need to answer that, please leave me alone, thanks.

PS. If you have to say something bad don't post it in thread it bothers people, just PM me.

No self-serving for me today.
I finally mulled over my decision. Turns out, +1 for me as well. 1st time ever I couldn't in good conscience stand behind my own.

Funny thing

I thought the contest was "Abstract Architecture" not Abstract Photo. Seems to me the thing is the architecture is abstract. But then again it could be I am still dumb as a stick. And if you look up the word then I think most of the pics here fit well. Just my worthless 2 cents worth.

I think you can take it either way, a photo of abstract architecture, or an abstract photo of architecture...

NaCl(you can make an argument for either case...and no I am not a lawyer!)H2O
