This is a great image and the BW conversion is nicely done. I would crop off a lot of the foreground though, as it is too void of any meaning or compositional relevance for the whole image.

Yes, it's too big--wish I could see the whole thing without scrolling.

But . . . I like it. Nice shot.

I think I disagree with Ben, though: I think darkness has a meaning all its own, especially in the foreground of this image.

If I were to crop this, I think I'd crop it at the top, maybe just below the top of the far stairwell wall. That would help emphasize the person and the darkness below him more.

But I like it as is, too. Just wish it were small enough to fit on my monitor. . . .

Agree that its too big, but the darkness in front is instrumental towards the positioning of the subject of the picture, at about 3/4 way up in the picture.

This image reminds me of some of Cartier-Bresson's work. He had a knack of finding figures lying or sprawled on the ground in public places. The use of the dark, otherwise-featureless foreground here reminds me of a photo Cartier-Bresson made in the Bowery in NYC in 1947.

Alex, I sure wish this one had been sized/resampled properly for the contest. . . .

Very nice shot, it brings back memories when I went to D.C. and there was a guy sleeping in the subway. I sure wish I had my camera then.

Thanks for sharing!

Wow, this one really gets you thinking about what the story is. Missed the last train? Just got very tired? Lives on the street but likes tobe dapper? Excellent work.

(From someone who generally does not get "street".)
