K-S1 price drops by $100 - I think

I got a email from Adorama today, and it looks like the inevitable has started: the price of the K-S1 body has dropped to $646 in the US ($696 for the kit). This isn't quite official yet, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the drop show up at the Pentax web store within the next few days.

I had heard the dollar/yen ratio has changed lately, is that true? In any case, slow demand is enough reason to drop this a ways. The one takeaway is that future cams will probably use the 20Mpxl sensor; Sony is bound to throttle back supply of the 16 since age trumps success in their mind.

Dollar is strong versus Yen, but not 15% since the K-S1 was introduced.

When the K-S1 was first introduced, I saw a comment from someone in Japan (on another site), talking about the "early adopter tax", and the price going down in a couple months. Perhaps we are seeing a more "Japanese" pricing pattern?

Well Adam, we discussed this in september and I talked about that at the Ricoh boot.... Overhere the single lens is 699 euro and that should have been 499 at start and not a penny more. Still no images floating around on the internet from this vapor-camera.

I'll have to post some then! The image quality is just fine, as we've come to expect of all Pentax DSLRs.

Actually, shots are starting to pop up on Flickr, both by and of the camera. Here are a couple of pics of the camera (not mine):

The price has to drop if the K-3's price is dropping too.

Have a read at this post from Imaging Resource.

More candy, less moolah: Pentax K-S1 gets a sweeter price and bundled Wi-Fi card

I wonder if this an indication of slow sales or the start of Christmas Promotions by Ricoh and others?

Looks like Pentax has dropped it on their webstore (but the bodies are all showing as backordered), B&H is still at the original price, and Amazon is splitting the difference at $687.06.

$646.95 with a FluCard and free shipping seems like a pretty fair price. I'll even put my money where my mouth is on that.

I was in Media Markt today, opening of a new shop. No Pentax or Ricoh inside. They had a special offer Nikon D5100 double kit pack for 449 euro (with K-S1 that is 799 euro!).

Looks like B&H has the same deals as Adorama now.

Maybe this is normal for a new release, but after about 3 weeks there are no reviews on B&H, Adorama, or Amazon.
Amazon looks to have about the same amount of 'in stock' bodies and kits.
It appears that only one has sold on eBay.

Too early still, or is there little interest for the K-S1 in the USA?

If you think that, I suggest you look at other K-S1 threads on this very site. A number of pix have been posted. I agree about the price, though.
