Moving on...how about that crackin' K-S1?

Work and the weather are keeping me from really seeing what it can do, but so far, I am liking it. There is something very K-xish about it (which is a good thing, IMHO). Kind of a cross between a K-x and K-01, with some K-3 thrown in. I'm thinking it will love the DA Limiteds.

You weren't.
I'm not going to make any accusations as to whom, but it appeared that there may have been a troll participating in this thread.

Hey Clackers, what's your opinion of the handling of the K-S1 + 50-135 combo?

I really like your 2nd shot, composition is excellent.
Thanks, Luftfluss. It's another bridge. In Melbourne, we apparently make redundant bridges whenever the Council finds any spare money.

For me, the K-S1 will be expected to have substantial lenses attached to it, like the 50-135, which surely delivers on the promise of what the APS-C form factor is capable of (let's conveniently ignore that it's an older one which has lost its SDM!).

I played cricket at the weekend and nearly attached the Tamron 70-200 and Sigma 150-500 to it for some higher shutter speed sports shots. My wife's trying to organize a day we can go birding on the grounds of the Werribee water treatment plant ... for weight reasons, this'll get the gig.

Also, the couriers have supposedly dropped off the Flu Card, so there'll be a time when outdoors I can set it up on a tripod, and act as my own assistant holding a reflector or flash off camera from a portrait subject and take the shot from the phone app.

Hello clackers, how do you find the autofocus performance of the K-s1 against your K-30? especially in low light. Thanks.

AtitG, very similar, since it's essentially the same Safox module.

PD focus through the OVF is good.

I turn off the AF lamp by default in order to be less intrusive in a setting, and notice it of course if I get slack and try to use Live View in the dark.

It's just as slow (but eventually accurate) as traditional mirrorless cameras and the K-30 in Live View.

Shots look clean, but with quite a bit of NR applied. Were these taken with the default NR settings?

Yes, Cali, the Default High ISO NR settings.

You can customize these.

Button presses let you go into any of the ISOs between 100-6400 and adjust the NR to Off, Low, Medium or High.

Beyond 6400, I assume the camera just does High.

Of course, you won't worry about any of that if you shoot RAW.

Have you converted your 50-135 to screwdrive?
That lens is one of the main reasons IMHO to be a pentaxian and I personally liked mine more after it was converted
It was faster to focus and I never worried about its reliability afterwards.

My thoughts and experiences exactly, Cali.

I swapped it for an afternoon with a guy who had the superb DA*55, and he was cursing me afterwards.

He had thought his LBA was over. He was now off the wagon and I'd been the enabler.
