Was it DC Watch or the 'Product Story' on the Ricoh Japan site? (Or maybe both - it's definitely mentioned in the Product Story.)

There are 12 'other' threads in the K-S1 forum, I don't read every thread and post at PF. Could you be more specific please. :)

EDIT: Oh, you edited your post while I was typing..

Steve: I edited the earlier post (to correct the source) and added a link. It's a pretty neat story to read.

Bad day in blackrock for me, as can affect tone from time to time.

For the battery insertion direction, we changed to a horizontal orientation from the vertical orientation used on the K-30 and other models.
I don't understand this comment. I see no change to the battery insertion direction.

EDIT: Ah wait, they are saying they rotated the orientation. Using Vertical/Horizontal to explain this was wrong imho.
All this really does is reduce the depth of the grip, not really a plus.
I still don't accept that they could not have a separate SD card door on the side when they have no trouble doing so with the Q.

Quick video of the timer LEDs in action:

(And yes, I know the white balance is screwy. The 'warm white' CFL bulbs in my office do not correspond to any spectrum known to your puny human science.)

That's neat - I like it, as it's something useful. Thanks for posting.

THis is for Japanese tourist that take such selfies when on holiday. Looks helpfull, but I only used the 12 sec timer for 2 times in the past 6 years.

I have to confess I've used the 12-second timer much, much more than I use HDR or interval or multi-exposure, either to use myself as a yardstick against some big thing, or for selfies (but I was doing that long before they were called 'selfies', back when you had to squint at the little lever going around). I think the 5-4-3-2-1 lights are a lot more intuitive than the usual blink-blink-blinkblinkblink LED.

I'm relieved to see I'm not the only one with CFL white balance problems! Thanks for posting your impressions of this camera.

I have problems with CFL WB, too.

I use the 12 second timer, too, when tripod shooting. I don't have the remote.

Everyone has CFL white balance problems and the LED bulbs are not much better.

Argh, the K-S1 has inherited one feature from my K-01 that I hate - if I say I'll take it out shooting on the weekend, the forecast immediately calls for overcast skies and rain. It'll probably knock all the leaves down while it's at it.

I was so desperate to shoot something with the good light (that I've only gotten to see through the windows at work this week) that I grabbed a couple quick shots of leaves in the parking lot on my way out to pick up supper. Click to get to flickr if you want to download the full-size files and pixelpeep (I uploaded the full-size jpegs, but I don't know how much reprocessing flickr did).

The Flickr page shows it to be the DA 40/2.8 Limited. I agree - very nice images.

DA 40 Limited - the pancake. I think I could have done a little better by shooting RAW, paying better attention to ISO versus aperture, not being in a hurry, etc.
