Canon seems to be a company who can deliver "good enough" in the sensor IQ department. If they aren't dumping R&D money into sensor tech then they must be making up for it with good AF tech or something.

I think they are good at advertising. Prior to about five years ago, Canon sensors were among the best out there. They just have ridden those sensors for too long.

But, they still have really good glass and you can get great photos with their cameras as long as you don't need really high dynamic range at base iso.

I think that is a good score. It is about the same as the K-01 (wich is my reference) and that is a great camera. The one point difference can be neglected. This sensor might have an itch in scoring when it was pared to the 14-bit PRIME III engine that runs in the K-3. But in general it concludes that:

For APS-C with current technology the 16 megapixel sensor is top!

They are different, at least different sensor-modules, since the 14-bit and 12-bit setting is done on the sensor and thus that makes the sensormodule different.
I agree 120%.
If a spanking new 7DmkII can get by with much lower figures, then those figures are probably good enough.
If it's like the K-01, then it's not a bad camera.
And I believe as well that, at this particular point in history, 16MP sensor is at or very near the sweetspot (noise, resolution, croppability, filesize, etc.).

The pixel size on the sensor is 18 sq mm vs 23 sq mm on the K-30, according to cameradecision.com, so you'd expect a hit on high ISO performance.

Cross posted, here are some high ISO images i took, all OoC JPGs, only cropped.

Usual disclaimer: Any missed focuses, underexposures, shots of the ground or pained expressions on the faces of subjects are obviously due to the camera, not the person operating it.

I guess that's sq Ám rather than sq mm.
