From earlier in the year: not what one might normally expect to see from an upstairs bedroom window.

I hope it's OK that I post my K-S1 shots here. It doesn't seem like the most active thread on the forum, but maybe the folks who on K-S1s are all out shooting...

It's perfectly fine, so long as you are having fun with the K-S1! I've been driving a desk for the past month and haven't taken a single picture. Today I finally made it out, and walked all the way to Africa and back (at the zoo, that is).

Nice and sharp. What lens was that, exif didn't show it. It did appear to say you're still on firmware 1.00, any reason for not updating?

So far, I think the K-S1 firmware updates were mostly adding lens support for lenses I don't have, so I stuck with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach.

The lens is the FA 100-300 4.7-5.8, the "plastic fantastic" of 300mm zooms. I've sung its praises before - I think it teams up really well with the K-S1.

Reviews of the FA 100-300 4.7-5.8:
SMC Pentax-FA 100-300mm F4.7-5.8 Reviews - FA Zoom Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

(I suspect that the couple people who gave negative reviews were confusing it with the F or FA 100-300 4.5-5.6. The four point seven has a different optical formula from the four point five. It's interesting that Pentax bothered to make a second 100-300 variable aperture zoom - they clearly thought that giving up a little speed for IQ was worth it.)

We're lucky you've got that K-S1 out of your daughter's hands for a while, Vincent! :-)

I think the K-S1 has been out long enough that more illustrations aren't really needed .... they can go in the individual lens forums.

But here's one from a couple of weeks ago, a balloon festival in the Yarra Valley not far out of town. (Pentax K-S1@1/80s, ISO800, Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 @31mm, f4, AFG540 flash)

It is a fun little camera. I only wish they could have stuck weather sealing in it. Seems like it could have been done without adding a whole lot of bulk/weight to it...

One more shot.

Well, they did it for the K-S2, and included a tilt screen, but the thing is now bigger and costs more.

More pics, please, Vincent! I keep showing my wife these shots from a guy in the American Midwest who manages to document all the different moods of his surroundings. :-)

A couple of shots of Cincinnati at night with the K-S1 and the DA 18-55. I have to say, the 18-55 isn't a bad lens. Sure, it is slow, but it's pretty flare resistant and has worked well for her so far.
