You know, you're right. They don't make it any more apparently, and the nearest things to it are bigger.

With the DA40 XS on it, it's a fantastic street photography device.

Hiking or cycling, I would take it and the DA15, DA21 and DA70.

As I say, I may just end up getting another.

So I got my K-S1... first thing I thought was, wow, this is supposed to be a 8+ condition (in B&H Photo ratings) which means it's supposed to be a moderately worn camera. But it looked new... the notes on the B&H page did say it was missing the flash hotshoe cover, so that is why it was marked as 8+, not because of condition.
So far I just took some test pictures and they look good on the LCD. My software (Corel Aftershot Pro) of course doesn't recognize the K-S1, so I don't have anything to share yet

But the best part is that I did take a .JPG to see what the shutter count was... about 250. So this must have been a demo unit or something. Not bad for what I paid for it (still not as good as the people who got one for 199 with the kit lens though...)

Is the supplied SilkyPix worth a try?

Ok so I went back out again and took some .jpg files. They didn't quite turn out the way I like, which tells me that RAW is still the way to go for me.

I did manage to do some PP to this one and got it somewhat to my liking...

First K-S1 impressions (coming from K20D, K-r and K10D):
- It's fast. Everything, from turning it on to shooting, is fast
- The interface is ok, I don't mind the big wheel. Easy enough to get used to.
- Build quality is pretty good, especially compared to others
- I *love* the viewfinder, it's noticeably bigger than the K10D's
- Shooting with the M 50 1.7 - the resolution is great! There's no way 20MP outresolves that lens...

Am I the only one still having fun with the K-S1?

The first one is SOOC too, and the other two are very similar to what I got out of camera. I might as well just be shooting JPEGs with this camera, the JPG engine is great

Nice pictures. But what lens/settings are you using?

Rikenon P 50 1.4, I love that lens. The first two are wide open. The first pic as I said is SOOC, and the bottom two are basically the same but a tad brighter and with some added contrast.

In camera settings are Portrait mode (which to me is the same as Natural, but with correction to skin tones when there's people in the picture). Then I did a +1 on Contrast, sharpness and High/Low Key parameters and that's it. I really should up the contrast to +2 or +3 when shooting with those older lenses. Oh and I watch the exposure, to me that is the biggest thing that makes or breaks a picture. If it's under or overexposed, you can "save" the picture nowadays because of the great DR but it just doesn't quite look the same as a properly exposed picture. Having had a K20D and now a K10D (where proper exposure is even more rewarding), this has probably been the most important thing I've learned so far

Still having fun with the K-S1 apart from yesterday when I decided to try a Tamron 70-300mm F4-5.6 LD Di Macro Lens on it, 90% in the bin and a few decent ones. Here's one of the keepers:

The K-S1 SOOC Jpegs are excellent for most things, so I think I'll be using it in this way quite a bit from now on. Plus there's always the possibility to save the RAW if I need to...

Thanks, Paul I thought that one was underexposed, which is a common problem with Pentax cameras... but as I said, I didn't attempt to fix anything.

By the way, didn't you get a K-5? I don't think I've seen you posting much from it yet...
