Pentax K-S2 Officially Announced

The K-S2 is Pentax's most advanced mid-range weather-sealed DSLR. It has been modernized with built-in Wi-Fi, weather sealing, and an articulating LCD screen and it features a high-resolution 20-megapixel sensor at its heart. It's also equipped with a best-in-class optical viewfinder and Pentax's best low-light autofocus.

This camera debuts a new ultra-compact collapsible kit lens with silent AF and weather sealing: the SMC Pentax-DA L 18-50mm F4-5.6 DC WR RE.

Give it real sensor shift stabilisation during video, and I'm pretty much convinced of this as the next camera for me.

Agree, though it makes me wonder about the next flagship APS-C which is bound to have the vari-angle screen, built-in WiFi and NFC etc plus the top LCD and mag-alloy build only the flagship models have. If I can hang out until then and get good use out of my K-50 in the meantime, it might be the better long term choice. I do miss the top LCD and mag-alloy build I had with the K-7. The K-3 just didn't tick all the boxes for me so I skipped it.
Then again, the K-S2 would probably be the more sensible choice..

Already ordered a K-S2. When the time comes, I'll sell off my K3, K5, and a K-01 and whatever else is necessary to acquire the K3 replacement... but I think the K-S2 is probably a keeper.

If I recall correctly, I read that the K-S1 lacks room for AA batteries. An employee of a major retailer told me a week or so ago that there was no listing of an adapter for the K-S2. I suspect we are out of luck on this. I hope the next major Pentax -- such as a successor to the K3 -- will allow for an adapter. I have been very pleased using AA batteries in Pentax DSLRs and prefer to continue to have that ability.

Yep, it's so small and lightweight that the SD card now lives in the battery compartment. No space wasted.

The downside though was that the battery was relatively tiny, and had to fit into the large void of space around it required to house the much larger AA battery holder component.
The end result was less battery capacity most of the time, with a chance that some would use the AA side of things at some stage.

I think you'd do better to invest in a small and portable solar charger or solar power bank, which could trickle charge your spare battery wherever you were in the world.

I liked the AA nature of it all, and I purchased a holder, but I've never used it and now don't know if I even have the expensive AA batteries I had for the K100d beforehand...
