I think it can't be overstated how nice the colors of the K-S1 and K-S2 are (for CMOS cameras, especially).
Yes I agree that it does really rich colours CR. it's a pity Pentax only used that sensor in those two models and that neither had 14 bit RAW. Mind you, the KP does very good colours too.

Cooper's hawk behind our house. Smaller birds quickly vacated the feeders in our back yard. These hawks patrol the area for prey much of the time.

Shot with my K-S2, a Sigma 400mm prime lens and a Tamron 1.4x teleconverter...through a window.

Another illustration of CR's point about the lovely colours produced by the K-S2. With DA 35mm f2.4. Early morning over Corner Inlet and Wilson's Promontory, Victoria.

Some shots of birds at my backyard feeder during yesterday's snow that left us with about 4" of the white stuff.

Shot with my K-S2, a Sigma 400mm prime lens and a Tamron 1.4x teleconverter...through a window.

Well it's a good thing you're feeding them... they probably need it at this point

Many thanks Michael. With the B&W ones, it was a bit counter-intuitive, because there was a rich mix of colours in the scene and a balance of warm and cool. But I liked the monochrome versions better - plenty of texture, contrast and detail. (The 16-85 is very good for this.) I think I will try more monochrome landscapes in future.

Awsome shot. Inspiring.
I'm still glad I kept my ks-2, even though I got a KP and now a K1. I still love taking pictures with this little gem.

Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo. K-S2 + DA L 55-300mm f4-5.8. (recently reprocessed with PL5 and Nik Color Efex Pro).

(One thing I notice about the K-S2 is that the Auto White Balance gets it wrong more than my other cameras do. I guess the KP, K-3 etc have more sophisticated metering. This image was far too magenta and too cool; it came alive when I fixed the WB.)

I don't think I came up with a good picture for the 21mm lens contest (which might as well be since I already have a DA 21)... and these are the ones that didn't even make the cut

Obviously I was going for a black and white theme...
