A year of work-from-home and not-travel-much-of-anywhere meant more time to work on picking up the camera. I'll share a couple. I have a somewhat limited budget - partly by choice - so when a fellow forum member had a SMC DA 55-300 F/4-5.8 ED on sale for $40, I decided it would be "good enough" for those hummingbird shots I had been thinking of. Paired with my K-S2 this turned out to be a great choice - as soon as I defeated my bad habit of rushing the shot. These little guys would visit the flower garden every hour or two through the day, and when I was sitting nearby they were even more skittish. The first few days I got some very blurry shots, but as my silent time waiting allowed me to think about what I was doing, I started framing shots for where I anticipated the hummingbird to land, and setting a manual focus for that point. When it did come to visit, I then tweaked focus and little by little came up with settings that worked, with this lens and camera. By the time I started to be satisfied with the results, they were beginning to migrate south, so I didn't get the really fast shutter-speed versions that I was looking forward to, but I got a few nice ones anyway. Along the way, over the summer, I also ordered a Russian-made Helios 44M-6 58mm from a seller in Russia - advertised as open box - serial number dates it to 1993 manufacture date, and looks like new. Works great with m42 adapter. One shot here was taken with that unlikely lens (unlikely for Hummingbirds!)
