Kestrel checking me out - DA 55-300 PLM

Common Kestrel

I don't know if it's more my own fault or the camera's, but I think I got really lucky getting this shot, most others from this and comparable sequences missed. Yes, I got it, but I think better AF, more FPS and bigger buffer would increase my chances in the future. Damn, I didn't want the K-3 III before, but now I kind of do...

Nice shot. Having a KP and K-S2, I find that even the KP has noticeably better AF (and more focus points). But, like you, I'm starting to want a K-3iii ... (But not until the price comes down and it's supported in DxO PL,)

This is why I moved from the KS-2 to the KP recently along with the better ISO performance. The KS-2 takes great photos but to get a photo like you just posted it would be part of sequence with far more misses. The KP is great but the K3iii does look nice but too rich for my wallet for the time being.

DA 55-300 PLM

Seriously underexposed because they moved away from the nice, green background and I didn't adapt, so shadows +100 (maximum) in DxO. Looked flat as expected afterwards, but I like the b/w version. Tried a silhouette as well but didn't convince me.

No local adjustments on this one, and I liked the little bit of light on the head of the middle one of the three better when it was a little brighter, but couldn't make that work without lifting the shadows of the others too much. Perhaps I should try again with curves or make use of some local adjustment?

You might want to try using Nik's Viveza software, which allows use of Control Points with its Brightness, Contrast, Saturation and Structure tools. You could thereby work with small portions of the image. Or you could adjust the entire image. I use the Viveza 2 version. But there's a newer version. Best wishes.

Will see what I can do, thanks

Couldn't they just cross like this in front of that background?
