K-S2 image sync trouble connecting

I've had my K-S2 for a few weeks now and I've been having lots of fun with it. I'm a newbie DSLR owner and I'm trying to explore the functions one at a time. Time for some tripod work and remote releases. But I'm having trouble connecting with Image Sync on my Samsung Galaxy S3.
I can get WiFi enabled on the camera no problem - I get the "WiFi enabled" message and the wifi icon. I start Image Sync on the phone. I can see in the Image Sync networks list that my camera is listed so it has obviously seen the camera, but when I try to connect, it gives me the "blobs in a circle" icon for a while then fails to connect.
I have tried connecting via NFC using the "touch the camera" method. I have tried putting the settings in manually and moving to channel 2, but nothing changes.
Can anyone offer any advice?

Which Android version is installed on your phone? The requirement ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ricohimaging.imagesync&hl=en ) states 4.4 (KitKat) - 5.0 (LolliPop).

Ah! That might explain it. My old Galaxy S3 is on 4.3. That sounds like a great excuse for a new phone Unfortunately I've blown the budget on the camera....

Thanks very much for supplying that info sterretje, I should have thought to look myself!

You should (I hope) be able to upgrade the OS without buying a new phone...

I have the s-3 with 4.4 and I get horrible results with connection also. When it connects it will time out after a minute and I am lucky it it connects. I can get my computer to connect easily and stay connected though I can't do anything with the camera that way so I think its a phone issue. The phone goes back to connecting to whatever wireless is around. I need to go to a place I don't have a wifi connection to compete against it. I suspect some setting is telling my phone to connect to the best connection around and the camera is never the best signal.

For what it's worth, I have the Samsung Galaxy Note II with Android 4.4.2 and it connects pretty painlessly.

I have the K-S2's wifi programmed into the phone as a network the phone "remembers". When I want to connect the phone to the cam, I hold the wifi button on the K-S2 for just a second until it beeps, bump the NFC icons, and the connection establishes within moments. So far, so good!

Thank you, Severalsnakes! Stumbled upon your post while searching for solutions to my KS2's sudden WiFi issues, and using the NFC points solved my problem. Funny, I had been able to get a connection in the past without doing that. Grateful to you and the forum.
