I like my K-S2... I've had Pentax since 1988, and the K-S2 is for me like a combination of K10D and K-x. I like it. More compact in size than the K10D but still with weather sealing and 100 percent viewfinder, and some fun modes like the K-x have... I like it.

I said it before and I'll say it again: The K-S1 and K-S2 are not targeted towards previous Pentax owners. They were not meant to replace anything in the Pentax line-up. So it should be of no surprise that they do not appeal to many Pentax owners.
I disagree. I'm a Pentax owner, and I'm leaning heavily towards the K-S2 simply for the tilt screen. I have bad knees & bad back, to when I want to take a photo of something low, I cannot do it. With the tilt screen I'd be able to.

The trouble for me is the cost. I'm happy with the K-3. If the K-2 had come out first, I'm sure I'd be happy with that to, but the wisdom of releasing a 20 Mp camera that is less MP than the flagship has to be questioned. I purchased a K-01 after my K-5. Side by side they shot identical images. When looking for a second body, I really like that. I'm willing to have less features, or different features, but I want the identical images thing for my second body.. but maybe that's just me.

I also disagree. I was already a Pentax owner (since 1970), and I leant heavily towards the K-S1 because it doesn't have a tilt screen and other things I don't want, like a second wheel. While keeping the IQ, it also doesn't have 200 grams or so of extra weight for the things I don't want either. And because it's a K-mount Pentax, I can use the lenses I already had.

My wife is still shooting with a K-5, so we will definitely look at a K-S2 if she decides to upgrade.

From the last 8 or 10 posts I'd say Pentax is doing a decent job of differentiating its bodies to meet the preferences of various buyers: some what this; some want that; some want the other. . . . . .

Good combo, alright, Rob!

Small, weathersealed, range of focal lengths, wifi ...

Just because Ricoh has targetted the K-S2 at some groups doesn't mean others won't find it attractive, too. My second bodies consist of a K-5, a K20D and a *istD, all with different pixel counts. If I didn't have all those, I'd probably look at a K-S2, too, and if I didn't have one eye on the forthcoming non-APSC body.

FWIW, COSTCO just emailed a members-only online special of the K-S2, 18-50/50-200m lens, 32Gig SD, carry case, $749.00. Fifty bucks lower than B&H with memory card and bag thrown in.

The S-line are attempts to grow the market - higher priced to attract people who normally buy premium products and want to upgrade to their first DSLR.

The K-50 and K-3 are aimed at traditional buyers with traditional features and pricing.

Having said that, the small form factor and great image quality of the K-S1 meant I bought it as an excellent travel camera. :-)
Not saying it isn't so but I've yet to see anything that suggests the K-S2 is attracting new buyers to the brand at a greater rate than the K-50 or K-3.

The critical part of this statement being "I've yet to see anything." I've yet to see anything either, one way or the other. It sure would be nice to see something.

The trouble is that we don't have any hard data to work with. All this is just speculation.

I asked the only camera shop in my neck of the woods that stock the k-s1, the answer i got was for every k-s1 sold they sell about 10 K-50 + 18-135/3.5-5.6 WR as a kit

if it wasn't for my love of b&w film i would be tempted to buy that kit
