Question to Pentax K-S1 owners shutter vibration

Hi everyone! This is my first post on this forum.

I am a new happy...ish owner of Pentax K-S1. I generally like the camera, but noticed an annoying effect image blurring or doubling that happens mostly around 1/100s shutter speed. It is very pronounced with the 18-55 kit lens, much less with the 35mm/2.4, but still noticeable sometimes. With shutter speeds longer than 1/100 or faster than 1/200 it disappears. I noticed similar effect shooting my K-01 with the same kit lens.

Did anybody else experience this effect? Is there a way to eliminate it other than avoiding those shutter speeds?

Thanks!

Do you have shake reduction on or off?

When you push the shutter release are you moving the camera? You may be flinching a bit as you take the photograph. Mount the camera on a tripod if you can and see if you still have the problem.

I noticed it when shooting handheld, haven't tried with a tripod yet. Will try tomorrow.

Make sure to turn SR off while on the tripod. If you don't it can cause a blur

Happy...ish ?? Is something else bugging you?

I can't say I've noticed the vibration you reported, but I'll be interested in the outcome of any experiment you do.

Noise! I got used to quiet mirrorless cameras and this one is too loud.

This morning I did a little experiment shooting from my balcony with and without a tripod. Here are the results.

Image blurring/doubling happened almost every time when shooting handheld at 1/100s. It was stronger with the kit lens and weaker with the 35mm/2.4. As expected, it didn't happen with the tripod, because it is very sturdy and can dampen any vibration. Interestingly, blurring happened less often when I shot handheld with a heavy tripod plate attached. At 1/250s there was no blurring at all. See illustration below.

I have no problem holding my other cameras steady at 1/100s and believe it's a shutter shock.

Yesterday I had a chance to compare the shutter noises of the K-S1, D800 and 5D mk III. The Pentax was about 3 times louder. But the price difference is even greater

So, I know this is regarding a different camera - but does anyone know if the K-S2 is exhibiting this shutter-shock as well?

I'm assuming there wasn't any redesign of the mirror box/shutter for the K-S2.

Well, the K-S2 is a far denser camera so that should help. It's weather sealed and 100gms heavier. Sorry I cannot contribute from first hand experience though.

The K-S2 is heavier, so probably not or at least not the same magnitude.

I've had my K50 now for a few days and noticed image blurring due to mirror slap at around 1/80 sec. Somewhat muted with IS on but still present. This could be a deal breaker for me.

That is odd. I have the K30 basically the same as the K50. I don't have the blurred images from mirror slap. With SR on I can usually get down to 1/10th around the 50mm range and still have sharp images. On the other hand if I forget to shut SR off on the tripod I do get a bit of blur.

What lens do you use? My K-S1 behaves differently with different lenses. Shutter shock is strongest with the kit zoom, less strong with 35/2.4, barely noticeable with Sigma 17-70 and absent with 50/1.8.
