K-r to K-S2

My mother is thinking about upgrading to the K-S2, she currently has the K-r with the twin lens DAL kit (18-55 and 55-200) so is used to that combo.
I mentioned that he 18-135mm might be worth the additional money (extra 150 on the 2 lens kit) as it has had some cracking reviews from 98% of people that have used it.

Is there anything I can add to convince her that it might be the better option? Apart from lugging two lens around, I am a tad worried she might miss the long range of the 200mm though, she couldn't tell me how much she uses it.

Cheers, Steve

It's hard to see the 18-135mm as any real ' replacement' for both of the 'kit' lenses already owned. They both have good reputations optically, so its not certain that the actual output results would be guaranteed to be better across the board (bearing in mind the new camera brings a major sensor and resolution upgrade). There is the WR plus DC autofocus motor as bonuses of course.

Assuming that there are more shots being taken in the wider ' standard' zoom range, then why not pair up the new K-S2 with a nice premium standard zoom, something like a 17-7Omm /17-50mm Sigma or Tamron ...or splash out on the Pentax HDDA 20-40 ... ! The 55-200 does sterling service for those who don't need F4.0 at 300 or 400mm for birds etc ....

I've just recently upgraded to the K-S2 from the K-r and I can thoroughly recommend the move.

I upgraded to get improved focussing and low light capability but the main thing was the weather resistance. It means it's much more of a walkaround, have it on me at all times, kind of camera. I also got the 18-135 which covers most of the range of your mums lenses and the 20mp sensor mean you can crop to help compensate for the lack of the 135-200 part of the range.

Also, though I didn't get it for the articulating screen, it has been surprisingly useful along with wireless control through the phone app since I don't have any remote release gizmos in my collection.

Don't get me wrong I love the K-r and will still be using it in good weather but the K-S2 is a vast improvement in many areas that the K-r was struggling with.

Thanks for the comments, I said to her if she can afford it go for the 18-135mm as from what I read it has slightly better IQ. The two lens kit it with the DAL lenses, my line of thought was to get the 18-135mm kit and keep the 55-200mm for the times she goes over 135mm.

Just thought I would update this..... After the new year my mother upgraded to the KS2 with standard lens, there was a good discount on the basic kit. Though she has not had a lot of time to have a good play as of yet.

Cheers, Steve
