K-S2 - is the kit lens worth $60?

Hello. I'm looking to get a K-S2. The camera with the RE lens is $60 more than body only. I have a Helios 44-2 and a manual lens from an ME that I want to try on it. I'm new to DSLRs. Should I buy it with lens? Any thoughts appreciated. Thank you.

Don't forget that your camera's weather resistance is a function of both the body & lens together. If you aren't using a WR/AW lens, you're not weather sealed. It's an important consideration if you will be shooting in potentially inclement weather.

If this is the lens offered, definitely worth the extra $60. As another member mentioned, the WR of lenses is important if you plan on shooting in inclement weather.

it's definitely worth $60. It's a small wr lens you can put in a pocket when it might rain. It's decently sharp and quiet though a pain to unlock. I hardly use mine but I know when it rains I have it.

Sure, k22, you should treat yourself to an autofocus lens. You might even like the experience!

Thanks for all the input. Yes, definitely time to treat myself to an autofocus experience.

It has autofocus, silent focus, compact size and WR. Seems a great deal for $60. Not a bad optical performer if stopped down as well.

I bought a K-S2 body w/o the lens. While in transit, I realized that I would like to have a lens that wasn't so big as the used 18-200mm I got rather a bargain on eBay. So I ordered a new kit, and got color, too while I was at it.

I don't think it's a question of is it "worth it?" Compared to what?

Thanks for all the replies. I bought the camera with the lens and really enjoy using it. It is worth the $60. Definitely a different experience than struggling with the helios.

The Kit lens might end up being the solution to many problems created by High end lenses, especially bulky zooms.
& this zoom is really unique - very tiny (probably smallest in it's class), light weight + WEATHER RESISTANT + Quick Shift - How often do you find these in a standard kit lens??

I know might be exaggerating here but I'd like to be a BIGGER CAMERA LENS CAP WHICH ALSO DOUBLES UP AS AN AWESOME ZOOM LENS with all the features mentioned above.

Hope it's successor does away with some of the short comings this one has.

I already had the 18-135 from my K-5 II kit purchase a few years ago and had no use for the new 18-55 lens. When I purchase my K-S2 I ordered it with the kit lens and promptly sold it for $100.00. So, go ahead and purchase the kit and sell the lens if you don't need it.

About the kit lens 18-50 wr with the K-S2. Is there a better lens cap that might actually stay on? The lens cap that came with it seems to come off very (too) easily.

The clip-on cap that came with mine stays on fine. Maybe try a screw-on cap?
