Help with Shutter priority new KS2

Hi,
I just got a new KS-2 and was excited to get using it. My K-x kicked the bucket last fall and I have been using my phone since.
I have had a problem with the shutter priority setting on the KS-2.
Basically, it won't let me change the shutter speed at all. Even though the speed option is highlighted green. When I turn the dial it does nothing.

Is this a faulty item?
Thank you
Shelly

What flash setting are you using? Max speed for shutter, when you have the flash enabled is 1/180.

Does the e-dial work in other modes (playback, in the main menu)?

You may want to try changing it in Manual mode or TAV mode.

If it is TV mode that is not allowing changes, you may want to check for any settings that are not set as default in that mode.

I have tried it with different flash modes. I have it set on manual flash discharge typically. The dial seems to be permanently set at 1/125.
What does the FULL mean beside the flash mode icon? I don't recall this being on my K-x

When it is set on the TAV mode (both shutter priority and aperture priority) both the shutter and aperture settings are highlighted but only the aperture one changes. This multiple TAv mode is new to me.....but intuitively it seems you should be able to change each setting independently.

Flash power. Indeed, there's a new setting for controlling the intensity.

If you close the flash are you able to control the shutter speed?

No ability to change shutter speed that I can tell. Doesn't matter what the flash setting is.
I already reset all the settings to default, still nothing changes.

in Tv setting the shutter speed, aperture and ISO are all flashing- but only the shutter speed is highlighted.

This is frustrating.

Is the lens cap on?

Also, what does M mode let you do?

Ha ha, No the lens cap is not on. I did check that and also checked to see if the lens was locked (it's the collapsible one)
I got desperate and switched to my Tamron lens that I used on my K-x and still no luck.

Ok so I think I just found the problem.
This camera has two dials, the K-x only has one. The second dial is on the front of the camera with no markings so I totally missed it.

It just occurred to me that the dial highlighted was a semi circle shape like an arch. The other dial indicator had a semi circle shape like a U.
I swear I read the manual.

You can customize those dials. We have our cameras set with rear dial controlling shutter speed and front dial controlling aperture. I think default is opposite of this.

Duel dials! An awesome attribute of Pentax cameras, including near entry-level! Gotta love em. Also, they help when reviewing taken photos. They toggle through photos/ zoom differently!

I set my front dial to control ISO. So in Av mode, I control aperture with the rear, and in Tv mode I control the shutter speed with the rear. ISO on the front, and then the third one is from the meter.

I don't do what Sarge does, because this mode is already available in TAv.

Same KS2 user. Some suggestions.

1. Follow the advice above.
2. Check your settings of "E-Dial Programming" and examine whether something goes wrong.
3. E-Dial failure? That's troublesome and unfortunate, so you might get your camera examined by specialists.
4. Mind that e-dial icon. Use the outer e-dial (in front of the shutter button) to adjust shutter speed in stock setting.
