I would complement that lens with a fixed focal length lens. But what kind of photos will you be taking? DA 50mm f1.8 would be great for low light and portrait photos. DA 35mm f2.8 macro would be great for slightly wider, group photos, closeups and such. Samyang 16mm f2 would give you a wider perspective than the zoom lens, faster aperture, and very sharp optics (but it is Manual focus only; and make sure you get one for Pentax Kmount as this lens is sold with various camera mounts) - get for landscapes, panoramas. Pentax DA 55-300mm gives you super telephoto at a decent price, good for animal photos, zoo photos and even for performances and other occasions where you can'teasily get close
Edit: I can also tell you I usually travel with 3 primes. Ultra wide (14mm or 21mm), normal (35mm or 40mm), and telephoto macro (DFA 100 macro). for my needs, this kind of combination covers pretty much everything. I usually end up taking most photos with the 21mm and 35mm.
Also think ahead of what kind of photography you would like to take in general. I know I am more of a wide angle guy, so I don't buy telephoto lenses. If you are into portraits, or if you will be taking product photos for your ebay sales or if you often take landscape photos,...
Sounds like a great trip, enjoy!
